MOOC (Massive Online Open Courses) brings new approaches in the pedagogical field and in information technologies because the education parameters have different dimensions compared with the time MOOC started developing aspects in traditional education system. 2013 was declared the MOOC year so, considering these aspects, one of the conclusions of this article is that 2014 can largely be declared also a MOOC year with a large number of new students involved in the on-line courses and new platforms of MOOC with fast growth. Given these new parameters of MOOC's approach, new systems and algorithms that facilitate work with massive number of students and new methods of measuring knowledge will be required. This article presents a statistic on recent development in MOOC and shows the main trends that promote this field. According to the statistical data presented in the article, I made a medium-term prediction of the evolution of MOOC. In addition, I treated in comparison the most important platforms in this field considering the aspects in evolution and innovation. Also some subjects that I considered interesting and treated in this article, are the main advantages of each platform what will determine the increase in the number of students and especially the number of active students. The article presents also in a short way the present development of MOOC in Romania and future plans of important actors in education. Is 2014 a year with a new collaborative MOOC platform or a year with new competing platforms? The answer to this question will determine the path of MOOC development. | Keywords
