The current study aims at studying the perceptive development and especially the elaboration of the image memorization capacity using adapted educational software in the case of the pupils with mental disabilities in the gymnasium cycle. We started from the following objectives:
1. Assessment of the elaboration level of the perceptive strategies in the case of the pupils with mental disabilities;
2. Assessment of the development level of the images memorization capacity in the case of the pupils with mental disabilities;
3. Application of an educational - therapeutic programme based on educational software;
4. Assessment of the impact of the use of educational software on the perceptive development and the images memorization in case of pupils with mental disabilities.
Hypotheses:
1. It is presumed that the application of an educational - therapeutic programme based on educational software determines an improvement of the perceptive activity in the case of pupils with mental disabilities, by the elaboration of perceptive strategies appropriate to their activity.
2. It is presumed that the use of the educational software in the educational - therapeutic activity developed with the pupils with mental disabilities determines an images memory improvement.
86 subjects with mild and moderate intellect deficiency, with chronological ages ranging between 11 and 16 years from the special schools were included in the study. These subjects were included in two batches:
- the experimental batch - 43 subjects. For 3 months, they were included in an educational - therapeutic programme based on the use of educational software (the lessons elaborated by SIVECO - Romania within the project entitled "Support for the Special Education System through Specialized Educational Portal" were used)
- the control batch - 43 subjects who attended the classical educational -therapeutic programmes
As the perception and image memory investigation methods, we used the Rey Complex Figure that we applied to both batches of subjects, both in the initial phase and in the post-therapeutic stage.
Following this investigation, we were able to observe a significant improvement of the perceptive activity in the case of the pupils with mental disabilities, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and we were able to ascertain a better appropriateness of the perceptive strategies thereof to the requirements of the activity they were involved in. This fact also had a positive influence on the memorization capacity of the perceived images, fact proved by the significant improvement of the results in the Rey complex figure memory reproduction test. | Keywords
