ACCESSIBLE OPEN SOURCE WITH KNOWLEDGE AND APPLICATIONS IN TEXTILE, AS AN E-LEARNING TOOL Authors: Harpa Rodica Volume 4 | DOI: 10.12753/2066-026X-14-283 | Pages: 343-350 | Download PDF | Abstract
The paper is presenting a short overview of some tools developed within the Uster Technologies website. Recognized as a world leader in textile quality control, because of the equipment and technical solutions brand Uster(R) for measuring, monitoring and analyzing characteristics of fibers, slivers, rovings and yarns, Uster Technologies shows a continuous concern for improving the quality of all products for specific end use. The Uster Technologies website has a complex structure but it is quite easy to navigate even though, besides important information for the manufacturers and customers niches from the textile supply chain (i.e. description of the portfolio and technical facilities of the own equipment and testing systems), it includes almost excessive sources of knowledge and practical applications. The Uster Technologies website also contains a reference tool in assessing quality for worldwide textile field, namely Uster(R) Statistics. All this can be accessed by students, and represent an important source as e-learning tools. The Quality Assurance in Spinning Mill and Quality Assurance in Weaving Mill from the curriculum delivered at the Faculty of Textile, Leather and Industrial Management from Iasi, are disciplines for Bachelor students (4th year of study). In both, course material and laboratory applications of the disciplines mentioned above, were included important elements for educational level, from the Uster Technologies website. Therefore, students come in contact with one of the latest achievements of the corporation: the online system for benchmarking and for defining quality of the main products categories. For this goal, several options are possible: to make use of online characteristic nomograms or, of online interactive tables. Interactive tables can be accessed through an user account and allow the benchmarking of the global quality level, corresponding to experimental data obtained by test reports or, the benchmarking of the characteristic values to be obtained corresponding to a global quality level specified by the client. One of the interactive practical applications for teaching students consists of accessing the USTER(R) Statistics online from Uster Technologies website and refers to the identification of customer specifications and/or simulation of the yarns quality profiles according to end use. | Keywords
