Abstract
The crises we have been participating in in the last three years, from the pandemic crisis to that of the war and the future food crisis, raise many questions about how prepared the citizen is to face these situations. The pandemic crisis has forced us to adapt to an online lifestyle, using digital technological communication tools, and the war in Ukraine shows us how they are used to help nations communicate with each other in the most sensitive situations. In both situations it can be seen how nations are striving to be adaptable, resilient and sustainable. The upcoming economic and food crisis will show us whether or not the models of resilience and sustainability are valid.
The paper aims to present the importance of digital education in shaping a digital society that can incorporate models of high adaptability and resilience and that offers sustainability. This can only be achieved in a smart nation, where technologies such as AI, robotics, cloud computing or blockchain are used for permanent education and training and thus allow the citizen to participate actively both in their own development and, implicitly, in the development of the whole nation.
In addition to technology and infrastructure, human capital is the foundation, fuel and key to designing, developing, building and digitally transforming cities and states into smart communities. In this way, smart citizens will be members of the society who will benefit from the smart assets of cities and states, as well as all the facilities offered by the technology. The smart character of a community is given by human capital and digitalization. The latter must be accessible and secure from the perspective of cybersecurity, so that citizens can finally enjoy services adapted to the twenty-first century.
But the "smartivist" citizen, who voluntarily actively supports the process of creating better living conditions with the help of technology, is born with the help of digital education, "smart" education, based on digital learning platforms that offer adaptable and sustainable content. |
