Insomnia and lack of sleep are enormous challenges for the 21st century. Due to this modern problem, people endure sleepiness, stress, fatigue, and reduced performance at the workspace and their daily activities. Sleep is a vital necessity for all living beings. People tend to sleep for 6 to 8 hours per day in normal circumstances. However, some individuals neglect this attribute that famously contributes to health and longevity, being constrained by external factors such as work, various health problems, social issues, and so on. There has been much research on how sleep deprivation affects productivity for all human beings, despite their professional activity. In recent years, the effect of sleep has been analyzed in various areas such as economics or medicine. Very few studies have been conducted to investigate the correspondence between the amount of slept hours and the productivity of a software developer. This study analyzes the effects of sleep on 30 programmers. The participants in the study completed a set of programming and attention tasks to analyze various parameters that may help a broader understanding of the influence of sleep on programmers. The results obtained confirm the influence of sleep deprivation on programmers and some specific differences at the gender level. | Keywords
