BRIDGING ACADEMIC EDUCATION WITH FLIGHT TRAINING OF PILOTS USING FINITE ELEMENTS AND SIMULATORS Authors: Lekea Ioanna, Stamatelos Dimitrios Volume 1 | DOI: 10.12753/2066-026X-23-008 | Pages: 90-98 | Download PDF | Abstract
This study introduces a cutting-edge educational tool that could revolutionize the way future pilots are trained. Recent studies have shown that traditional academic education is not effectively linked with flight training, creating the need for an innovative solution. The proposed platform bridges this gap by providing trainees with a chance to visualize and comprehend the impact of different aircraft aspects and failures on its overall performance. By using the ANSYS environment, trainees can assess the structural integrity and safety of their proposed design under predetermined loading actions. What sets this platform apart is that it transforms numerical analysis results into a flight simulator, where trainees can experience the consequences of their design choices. This serious game approach to training encourages trainee engagement and comprehension of Aeronautical Decision-Making (ADM), flight safety, and the physics of flight. With multiple scenarios under development, ranging from aerodynamic to structural and design elements, the platform is soon to be utilized for training and assessment purposes at the Hellenic Air Force Academy (HAFA). This state of-the-art platform is set to transform pilot training and is a must-read for anyone interested in the aviation industry. | Keywords
