A PROPOSAL FOR THE TEACHING OF SCADA SYSTEMS IN HIGHER EDUCATION Authors: NICULESCU-FAIDA Oana-Carmen, Moldoveanu Alin, Niculescu-Faida Adrian, PETRICA Silvian Volume 2 | DOI: 10.12753/2066-026X-23-068 | Pages: 285-293 | Download PDF | Abstract
In this work, a methodology for integrating virtual laboratories, which represents a real industrial problem, was introduced with the aim of bridging the existing gaps between industry and education. The paper presents the learning of SCADA systems based on virtual laboratories used for education which contain testing materials of industrial automation equipment. A case study of a hydro power plant is taken into analysis containing the most commonly used water turbine. The complexity of the regulation system of the turbine makes it an ideal choice for an educational application. The student must supervise the condition of each piece of equipment within the proposed installation and intervene in case of abnormal situations. The decision making process is clearly visualized by the students as it has a direct effect on the application and thus it allows a quick corrective measure when necessary, making the learning process very fluent. The application shows how their decisions can affect the safety and operation of an industrial system. The teaching method based on this platform is considered very effective, being more attractive and simpler than traditional methods. Students obtained better grades and demonstrated greater interest through greater participation throughout the courses and seminars within the virtual lab. | Keywords
