THE IMPORTANCE OF THE POLAR DEVICE IN MONITORING PEOPLE WITH DOWN SYNDROME Authors: Balan Valeria, Gherghel Carmen Liliana , Predescu Corina, Mujea Ana-Maria, Oprisescu Ioana Volume 3 | DOI: 10.12753/2066-026X-20-218 | Pages: 363-369 | Download PDF | Abstract
The information and the study which exist in the specialty literatures about the functional parameters and their monitoring during the effort at the Down syndrome persons are insufficient. They are insufficient to elaborate a training algorithm based on the heart rate evolution. All these aspects come together with the necessity of these persons to be supervised carefully because of their associated pathology. Our study begun from the hypothesis of the importance of the permanent monitoring of the heart rate evolution and the caloric consumption for Down syndrome persons who practiced bocce as a method of control of the intensity of the effort. Thus, we determined the work heart rate during a competition with the help of the Polar device. After this, the heart rate was correlated with the manner in which the athletes appreciated the effort. The athletes' opinions were evaluated with the Borg scale. We presented every athlete the caloric consumption for being able to argue the importance of the sport practicing for that challenged persons. At the same time, we showed the caloric consumption because the majority of the athletes had to lose weight, for reducing the BMI. The results showed a moderate intensity of the effort from the perspective of the heart rate evolution while the work heart rate had an average of 58.3% from the maximum heart rate. The effort was felt as moderate towards difficult at the Borg scale evaluation. In conclusion, the monitoring with the help of the Polar device allows the avoidance of the high work heart rate, it stimulates the attendance the regular physical activity through the caloric consumption display. At the same time, the monitoring represents an efficient modality for insuring the psychic comfort during the competition. | Keywords
